Jack O' Lanterns

Last night was the first free night we've had all week, so we decided to carve our pumpkins. Caden chose a scary pumpkin Zorro on a horse and Lexi made up her own classic Jack O Lantern face. As tradition holds true, I gutted (is that the right terminology?) the pumpkins. What's with that? I think it's fun, yet no one else wants to get their hands dirty. Maybe Archer will help me out next year? Just maybe. Archer lasted for the first 5 min. and then went to bed, which is why there are no pics of him. Once we had completed the carving we always take them out on the front porch and light them to get the "real" affect of how they turned out. Unfortunately, I could not find my tea lights any where. I must have misplaced them during the move. Clint couldn't wait until I made my way to the store the next day, so he went out and bought some that night. By the time he made it home (who knew it could take 45 min. to run in Bashas and Walgreens and find tea lights), it was way past bed time but we did get to see the lit pumpkins which the kids were pretty proud of!

Lexi was practicing her picture taking skills...

...hence my head is cut off!

Clint takes this night pretty serious! In fact at one point I asked if he had great family memories doing this growing up? He says he doesn't really remember doing this as a family. I on the other hand LOVE carving pumpkins and always remember doing it together as a family. I remember my Dad, the artist, would come up with the coolest faces and if we were lucky my Mom would toast the pumpkin seeds for us to eat. I hope to build the same memories for my kids!

looks intense and dangerous!

The final product! The picture doesn't do them justice.

are you scared???

gentleman

"Mom, can I go out and ride my bike?"
This is what I hear all day long. Since it is finally nice outside Caden has been loving his bike. He is definately more confident and cruises around like it's nothin'! We usually head outside every afternoon about the time Lexi gets off the bus. Yesterday Caden cruised down the street and turned the corner where I could no longer see him (we're working on this...he's had many talks about how unsafe this is). About two minutes later I see Lexi coming down the sidewalk on Caden's bike and a little man with a great big PINK backpack trailing behind! As he arrived home he said, "Mom, I let Lexi ride my bike and I carried her backpack with my strong muscles!" What a gentleman! Let's hope this behavior continues!

almost there...

Archer has been growing and changing and is so much fun! Our baby is now over 7 months?! He loves to talk and say "mama" and other baby jabber. He also has been trying to figure out the crawling thing for about a month now. He began by kicking his legs as fast as he can ("swimming" as we call it) while on his tummy. Somehow he figured that this effort was getting him no where! He then began to push up and do the normal rock back and forth on your knees. Shortly after that he figured out how to sit up from lying down. He now takes a few crawling "steps" forward at an effort to get something in front of him! I know he is only days away from cruising around and getting in to every cupboard, finding every crumb on the floor, and making every mess he can get into!

I have video of the little man showing off his moves, but blogger is not cooperating! As soon as I figure it out, I'll post it!

Insightful

While on vacation, one of the men lent this book to one of the women, and then it was passed on to me. I reluctantly took it, just because I needed something to read while sitting in the house with a sleeping baby. I have to say it was so INSIGHTFUL. Seriously. We as women joke about the way our husbands are, but they're that way for a reason and this book helps explain and helps us to understand our men! If you're a woman read this!
(And in case you're wondering if there is a book "For men only" ...there is! And you bet that my husband is going to read it. He just doesn't know it yet!)

Crazy Storm

Last Tuesday we had a crazy monsoon day full of rain, wind and hail. The showers were on and off all day. The second the rain started pouring outside Caden was out there ready to play! He enjoyed himself for the 10 min. it lasted! Once we came in and got dried off his first request was for hot chocolate! I look for any good reason to have hot cocoa, so of course we made some with
marshmallows!

Rocky Point 2010

We just returned from a fun vacation to Puerto Penasco, Mexico. We went with our friends, the Revie's, Kempton's, and Zweifel's. We used to all be in the same ward, so we try to get together and vacation every couple of years. There were 8 adults and 12 kids. We had such a blast! We stayed in a house in Las Conchas that was right on the beach. It was perfect, especially for us with babies who would nap and we could easily check on them while enjoying time in the sand!

Some of the other highlights of the trip included: snorkeling, scuba, guitar hero, lots of yummy food, thrifty ice cream, El Pollo Lucas (our favorite restaurant to venture to with all the kids), lots of sand and beach time, ATV's, and great late nights full of fun and games...oh and consequences!

We had a blast and can't wait to do it again!

a lot of the crew!

pretty sure Trent had a little crush!

Archer was a great sport the whole time!

When I would first get down to dip Archer's toes in the water he pretty much freaked out! Not quite sure why because the water was the perfect temp. Once he got over the initial shock he was fine; clung to me the whole time...but wasn't crying.

making sand castles

must be all that sand stuck up there!

this picture took me by shock when I saw it! I never did venture up to the roof top, but apparently the kids thought it was their own climbing wall. I'm guessing it was safe?!

We traveled to another area so we could see some better sea life while snorkeling and scuba diving. The kids loved playing around on the rocks!
